Fully renovated accessible swimming pool

In 2022, the Municipality of Koper has, in cooperation with private institution Zavod Brez ovir, installed a pool and beach lift at the renovated Žusterna beach. The lift enables physically impaired people safe and easy access to the sea. There is also a movable ramp next to it for easier access to the lift. The maximum load capacity of the lift is 140 kg. The beach also offers its guests four beach deckchairs, designed for people with physical impairment with the height of 45 cm, as well as umbrellas and adapted wardrobes.

The beach is managed by Marjetica Koper, a public company that also cares for the maintenance of the lift and charging of the battery. Lift users are assisted by their escort, but lifeguards who keep the battery should be notified in advance.

The sanitary facilities will also become adapted for physically impaired and available between 7 am and 11 pm. A key will be installed in the toilet locks, allowing the user unobstructed and independent use of the sanitary facilities without needing to ask for the key at the reception or with lifeguards. A special board for the blind and partly sighted will also be set up in order for them to recognize by touch which toilets are intended for them.

Accessible parking	Access to the beach is possible by car, and there are also disabled parking spaces. The passage to the entrance is barrier-free.
Accessible entrance	The left side of the beach is easily accessible and architecturally adapted, while on the right side you’ll find orderly pebble swimming area not accessible to people with disabilities.
Accessible toilet	Adapted toilets and changing room are found on the beach.
Accessible access to water from the beach or pool	The beach has a regulated entrance to the sea by the pool and beach lift. The lift has handhold and foothold and a safety belt.
Accessible café or restaurant ali bar	There is an accessible restaurant next to the swimming area.
Accessible paths	There is a nicely maintained waling path next to the beach that connects the Koper city centre with Žusterna and Izola.

The beach in Žusterna has become friendlier for all visitors. The worn-out grass on both swimming areas have been replaced with grass turf, playgrounds observation towers and benches have been renovated and repainted, sand in the sandbox replaced, the steps cleaned and access to the sea arranged.

Toilets and showers on the beach are free of charge and there is also a seasonal beach library. With its diverse offer, the restaurant provides visitors with refreshments and snacks during warm summer days. Lifeguards take care of everyone’s safety throughout the beach.

Lockers with code locks are also available. The swimmers can use them to safely store their personal items.
